Faria Lima: historical facts and curiosities about the region

5/18/2022

Every day, 145,000 people travel through the Faria Lima region, in São Paulo. Its strategic location, with easy access to Europa, Cidade Jardim, Rebouças, Juscelino Kubitschek and Marginal Pinheiros avenues makes it one of the most coveted spots in São Paulo, with the highest office occupancy rate in the region since 2015.

Learn more about Brazil's main financial center.

The emergence of Avenida Faria Lima

Do you know who named this important avenue in São Paulo? The important road, which connects the neighborhood of Pinheiros to Itaim Bibi, had its work started in the 1960s and would be called Radial Oeste. However, with the death of the then mayor, José Vicente Faria Lima, it was decided that the name of the extensive avenue, 4.6 km, would be a posthumous tribute to him – thus, Avenida Brigadeiro Faria Lima was born.

Numerous historical changes marked the Faria Lima region until it became what it is today: Brazil's main financial center. In the beginning, the offices were concentrated in the central region of the city of São Paulo. Later, they began to focus on the also famous Avenida Paulista, until in the 1970s Faria Lima began its verticalization project, attracting the attention of companies.

In the 1980s, Avenida Luís Carlos Berrini became an important office hub, and then in the following decade, the mayor at the time, Paulo Maluf, promoted the extension of Avenida Faria Lima, which again attracted the attention of investors and occupants.

Buildings draw attention

The high demand for commercial slabs in Faria Lima and its surroundings is increasingly attracting the interest of construction companies, which have invested in mixed-use complexes, coveted by large multinational companies.
