KEEPING SUSTAINABILITY, INCLUSIVITY, AND COMMUNITY AT THE CORE OF OUR ACTIVITIES

Cameron Ahrens • 19/05/2023

At Cushman & Wakefield, we are committed to making a positive impact not just for our clients, but also for our communities and the environment we live in. This includes adopting socially responsible and sustainable practices in our events or activities that we organise or participate in. A most recent example is CoreNet Global’s Asia Pacific Summit in Singapore, where we were a sponsor.

We took a considered approach in the activities we planned around the Summit by keeping sustainability, inclusivity, and our community at the core of our plans.

This year’s Summit saw the involvement of more than 10 of our global and regional leaders from around the world. In addition to leading and participating in 5 panel discussions and a hackathon at the Summit, we hosted a client networking event with almost 100 clients in attendance.

The key themes of sustainability, inclusivity, and community were carried through the following elements of the client event:

  • Eco-friendly transport: 7 electric cars were hired to transport our people and clients to and from the Summit venue, with the aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants.
  • Eco-friendly venue: Instead of an F&B establishment, we chose to host the event at our office in CapitaSpring, an integrated development with Green Mark Platinum & Universal Design GoldPLUS certified by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore. Our Destination Office was also designed to “double up” as a hospitality space.
  • Locally-sourced produce: We partnered with our client, ComCrop, to use their produce in the food prepared for the event as well as giving out kale samples to the attendees. ComCrop is Singapore’s urban farming pioneer, dedicated to providing high-quality, locally sourced produce. Their urban farms reinvigorate marginalised spaces and employ senior citizens and people from marginalised communities.
  • Support for local social enterprises: Instead of handing out corporate gifts, we partnered with The Art Faculty to showcase their merchandise that are designed by neurodiverse artists who are on the autism spectrum such as lanyards, eco reusable bags and cutlery sets. We also donated the savings from our Summit booth to Arc Children’s Centre, a purpose-built daycare centre for children living with cancer or critical illness and their siblings, and partnered with Bevvies, our F&B provider for the event, to make a donation to Arc Children’s Centre based on our event F&B consumption.

As we strive to lead the way in creating impactful real estate events, we recognise that change needs to happen in all aspects of what we do, how we work and who we work with. Events have the power to change the way people think and act and we believe that demonstrating our sustainability commitments and social responsibility in the way we approach events is a natural part of our ESG journey.
