Inflation in Focus

Rebecca Rockey • 3/21/2022

There is a lot of anxiety around inflation, tight labor market conditions and the prospect of rising interest rates these days. A disconnect between supply and demand — still vulnerable to labor shortages and freight bottlenecks — brought about the sharpest climb in the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) in 40 years. In many Western nations and regions, consumer price growth is reaching a multi-decade high.

As global events (including the economic impacts of the pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine) unfold, already surging energy prices are being further pressured, as are a number of raw materials and commodities. At the same time, the Federal Reserve is issuing interest rate hikes, as are other major central banks.

Is this a moment in time or our new inflationary landscape for the foreseeable future?  With this collection, we offer perspectives and insights in on inflation, interest rates and how CRE leaders can prepare for what’s next.
