CW seeks the opportunity to include the category of accessibility in LEED certification

4/18/2018
Cushman &Wakefield Mexico created the category of Accessibility, a space which welcomes any person, whatever his or her physical condition, as well as all those accompanying him or her for LEED certification.

Mexico City- Cushman & Wakefield received Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO of the US Green Building Council (USGBC) so that the team, consisting of sustainability services and C&W, headed by África Rubio and Luis Quintana, director de Everything Accessible, were able to present an initiative where accessibility is converted into a credit in the innovation category for LEED certification.

Mexico LEED CertificationAfter the presentation, USGBC agreed and invited our team to review and adjust the standards of this credit for inclusion as one of the options in the innovation category.

“This means improving our quality of life and not only making it more sustainable but also transforming places where our families, neighbours and ourselves live, learn, work and play and is also the air we breathe and the water we drink. It also involves the way in which we do business, teach our children and come together to take decisions; as well as build healthier communities and more liveable cities to leave to the next generation a sustainable planet,” said Mahesh Ramanujam.

Currently, the accessibility credit is in a test phase, i.e. It has to be applied in various certifications so that it is no longer a “pilot” and thus manage to stay a fixed credit.

We expect that users and applicants for LEED certification, regardless of the category of registration can see the great benefit that can be obtained by incorporating the accessibility standards in their properties.
