New attractive appearance for Las Palmas
01:
The Opportunity
Las Palmas is a former workshop building in Rotterdam of the shipping company Holland America (Holland America Line). The now monumental building Las Palmas got a new owner who wanted to make the building interesting for users and the environment for many years to come. We have been asked to give Las Palmas a new attractive appearance, to clarify the routing and to give back its recognizable identity.

02:
The solution
After research, we developed a design concept in which we were able to increase the visibility and clarity of the building. For this, we dug into the ar-chives and reverted to the original design vision of the architect; Van den Broek en Bakema.

03:
The Result
In the design of these architects, the ground floor was divided by an inner street that ran straight through the building from North to South. This inner street has been restored by us and offers access to the various users.
The plinth layer used to be messy and the entrance was not clearly recognizable. We have been able to increase accessibility by limiting access to one eye-catching spot, making the entire front facade more transparent and applying better signing. The Rotterdam icon has been restored!

A city full of green is not valued enough
A green environment or fresh air is not often a reason to live in a city, rather the opposite. It is often a reason to escape the city at the weekend and visit nature, or even to live elsewhere.
