The headquarters of Cofidis in Portugal is now recognised with the LEED Silvercertification, which validates the sustainable characteristics of the buildings.
The certification process was advised by the Project & Development Services andESG & Sustainability teams at Cushman & Wakefield.
Cushman & Wakefield and Cofidis announce that Natura Towers now have LEEDSilver certification. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is aninternationally recognised sustainability rating system for construction, emphasisingthe importance of building certification in terms of increasing energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and creating healthy environments for users.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system in theworld. The LEED certification is a globally recognised symbol of success andleadership in sustainability. The LEED certification framework promotes sustainablebuildings that are highly efficient and economically viable, rewarding best practices in
innovation and recognising exemplary projects with different levels of certification(Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum).
“The achievement of LEED Silver certification for Natura Towers reinforces ourcommitment to environmental sustainability and the well-being of our Employees, bycreating a space that minimizes environmental impact and optimizes resourceutilization. We are very proud to take this important step towards a more responsibleand conscious future,” states Pavlina Borovkova, Financial and Legal Director atCofidis Portugal.
Although there are many different definitions of green building, it is generallyaccepted as the planning, design, construction (and demolition), and operations ofbuildings with several central and paramount considerations: energy use, water use, indoor environmental quality, material selection, site, and location within thesurrounding community. These elements constitute the basic parameters for thedifferent credit categories under the LEED green building rating system.
“This LEED Silver certification indicates that Natura Towers have implementedsignificant measures to reduce their environmental impact, such as the use ofsustainable materials, improving energy efficiency, and ensuring a healthy internalenvironment. This certification reflects Cofidis’s commitment to sustainability andcreating a positive impact on the environment,” comments Ricardo Passarinho, Senior Project Manager at the Project & Development Services team at Cushman &Wakefield in Portugal.
In addition to this certification, Natura Towers have also been recently distinguishedwith the WELL certification from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI),which evaluates conditions for building users – a prestigious designation forbuildings that meet rigorous health and well-being standards.
The certificationprocess was also advised by Cushman & Wakefield. Cofidis inaugurated itsheadquarters at Natura Towers in 2022, which today houses about 750 employees ofthe French multinational in Portugal; Cushman & Wakefield was chosen to executethe architectural project and manage the construction project that totalled more than10,000 m². Cushman & Wakefield has been investing in the area of Sustainability &ESG, boasting a team prepared to carry out such certifications that promote buildingsustainability (BREEAM and LEED) as well as user health and well-being (WELL andFITWEL).
