Almaty

Almaty is the former capital and the most developed commercial real estate (CRE) market in Kazakhstan. It boasts the largest business, retail and logistic hubs countrywide. As a true gateway to the Kazakhstan market, the Cushman & Wakefield Almaty office provides a wide range of services aiming to unlock opportunities in the Central Asia region, for both international and local developers, seeking to establish operations or expand in the market.

Almaty - the most developed cre market countrywide
Since Kazakhstan gained independence in 1991, the country has attracted an influx of foreign direct investment, turning Almaty from an outdated low-quality CRE market, to one of the most dynamic, developed business and cultural hubs across the CIS. As for now, Almaty has the largest economy countrywide, hosting the headquarters of internationally recognised global companies having a presence in the CIS.

Despite Kazakhstan’s capital moving from Almaty to Nur-Sultan (until recently Astana) in 1997, Almaty continues to dominate in commerce, culture and tourism, remaining the primary retail and business destination in the country. With the majority of legal entities and financial institutions based here, Almaty holds a countrywide lead for financial and professional services, driving demand for quality office space. Thanks to its strategic location along the international transit route between Europe and Western China, the city is also recognised as the most important transport, logistics and distribution hub in the country, with developed industrial and warehousing facilities. By far the largest city in the country and with a moderately high disposable income for its urban population, makes the city an attractive market for the retail sector. As the region’s primary retail destination, Almaty has the most developed retail infrastructure and serves as a focal point for new market entrants.

NUR-SULTAN

Cushman & Wakefield in Kazakhstan provides strategic commercial real estate (CRE) solutions throughout the country and adjacent Central Asian republics including - Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. With seamless coverage of the region, Cushman & Wakefield’s local office is constantly acquiring and sharing knowledge and resources to drive client value by delivering the right real estate solution.

Our presence in Kazakhstan CRE market dates back to 2010, when the first office was established in Almaty. To meet the growing needs of our clients, the company expanded its presence, establishing a second office in the capital city of Nur-Sultan.

Nur-Sultan – a rapidly developing capital
Nur-Sultan (formerly known as Astana) is the modernistic and planned capital city of the country. It is the second-largest city (Almaty being the largest), a financial centre, and regional investment hub. The city’s position at the heart of Eurasia contributes to its trade and economic potential.

Nur-Sultan is also one of the leading property markets in the country, where residential and commercial real estate development continues to transform the city’s skyline at a rapid pace. The brand-new city boasts impressive buildings designed by world-famous architects. More ambitious projects are being proposed with a view to shape the city’s global identity. As the growing economic and political hub, the focus of construction activity has predictably come from public sector demand, and a large proportion of the Government’s budget has been spent on ensuring the city fulfills its role as the new center point of the national economy.

Hosting Astana EXPO-2017 international exhibition posed new urban challenges for the city. The capital of Nur-Sultan holds responsibility to act as the engine of the country’s economic growth, gain achievements in socio-economic, political and cultural development, and ultimately become a megacity – a global center of attraction for talent, tourists and investors.
