The Rise of Data Centres in India: A State-Wise Comparison

Vivek Dahiya • 19/05/2022

Data Centre Policies in India

The year 2022 started on a positive note for Data Centres in India, especially for the city of Chennai. New cloud regions have been announced in Hyderabad, acquisition of sites in Chennai has put on spotlight on the city, while Mumbai remains a preferred site for most firms. By mid-2022 approximately 30 acres of new sites will be acquired in Chennai, although less compared to Mumbai, this will be a significant addition to the city’s Data Centre capacity.

Chennai is crucial to India’s Data Centres ecosystem, as it is one of five submarine landing cable sites, and is expected to have more projects to improve India’s connectivity. Coupled with a growing IT/ITES sector, Chennai will be able to sustain the Data Centre demand.

Upcoming regions are improving the ability of firms in India to offer state-of-the-art software infrastructure, platform-as-a-service, file sharing, data storage services, big data analytics, data governance, and cyber security.

Firms in India, local or international, will no longer be hampered by a lack of infrastructure and allow them to innovate more in India.
