C&W KOREA OFFICE DESIGN PROJECT
01 BACKGROUND
Cushman and Wakefield’s (C&W) Seoul, Korea office has moved into their new in-house location at the “Seoul Finance Centre” in Sejong-daero, with the move signifying the business’s future growth and expansion plans.
In a truly inter-country collaboration effort, the fit-out works were spearheaded by the Korea Project and Development services team (PDS) with the office design by the Japan PDS Design & Workplace team.
With a collective of dedicated Project, Cost and Construction Mangers working closely with our talented Architects and Designers, the C&W Seoul office was successfully delivered on time and under budget despite compressed timelines and challenging market conditions.
The extended project team (including trusted partners and consultants) was all-female lead, including the internal C&W client working group, Workplace Strategy leads, Design Team, Project Management group and the Design & Build team leads. This project reflects C&W's culture of respect for the advancement of women.
02 Features of the Design
The design of the office had one clear brief “to look and operate completely different to others”. Specifically, the design achieved the following:
- A moody and boutique reception area was designed to welcome clients with a large digital screen showcasing global Cushman and Wakefield achievements.
- The overhead mirrors on the ceiling depict the reflection of the setting sun in the nearby Cheonggyecheon Urban water park.
- The lush greenery is designed to pay homage to the beautiful grounds of the neighboring Deoksugung Palace.
The “Water park” and “Palace greenery” concepts extend from the reception zone, further explored through the collaborative office wings with two clear colour identities of blue and green creating a unique workplace experience for the local team.
In the new office, the café is centrally located as an active space of connection, where staff and clients alike can meet to touchdown. The custom mural in the cafe was designed and painted by a local Korean art collective and inspired by the C&W logo against the backdrop of the Seoul skyline.
03 Impact of the New Office
The new office has successfully increased employee comfort and satisfaction with many employees reporting that new opportunities for communication and collaboration have increased with the redesign of the space.
