Profile
Richard Bernstein has over 20 years of commercial real estate experience, mainly focused on tenant and owner representation. In 2016 he was recognized as one of Cushman & Wakefield's Top 10 Producers in the Tri-State Region and Top Office Producer globally. He is a skilled real estate negotiator who is particularly adept at understanding market issues and trends. Mr. Bernstein expertly devises unique and creative solutions to complex real estate problems for his clients and their portfolios – whether they have one or multiple locations across the globe. Mr. Bernstein’s successes include large-scale corporate consolidations, expansions and relocations, as well as developing and executing complex portfolio monetization strategies. This expertise led Mr. Bernstein to be named by The Real Deal a top 20 “Power Broker” in New York City, having closed over 500,000 square feet of transactions in 2011, as well as being named to the top 10 tenant representation list, by volume. Mr. Bernstein was also named to Real Estate Forum’s 2012 Top Brokers in New York.
Mr. Bernstein works with his clients to find real estate solutions that will lower their occupancy costs, while utilizing strategic planning for both short- and long-term solutions. These unique solutions and creative strategies encourage long-term relationships with clients, allowing them to maximize value throughout their portfolios, while meeting their needs for the future. To that end, Mr. Bernstein has recently worked with Random House on a lease restructuring of 700,000 square feet, which resulted in a lease extension of 315,000 square feet. Mr. Bernstein also worked with Aegis on extending and expanding their 150,000-square-foot lease at 150 East 42nd Street, as well as with Coty on a 300,000-square-foot consolidation in the Empire State Building.
Previous notable transactions include the New York Times relocation into their 800,000-square-foot headquarters building, the 250,000-square-foot lease for King & Spalding at 1185 Avenue of the Americas, and Greenberg Traurig’s 225,000-square-foot consolidation at 200 Park Avenue.
Mr. Bernstein joined Cushman & Wakefield (formerly DTZ) in 2007. He is responsible for expanding the firm’s transaction management practice as well as advising on the strategic direction of the firm.
Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield, Mr. Bernstein was President of Trammell Crow Company (TCC) in New York where he had dual responsibilities. At the helm of TCC, the firm significantly expanded its operations across all service lines. During his tenure, he was also responsible for arranging leasing and equity transactions for significant clients such as JPMorgan Chase & Co., Random House, Coty, King & Spalding, and Chubb & Son Inc.
