Cushman & Wakefield appoints Head of IFM at inflection point for the industry

05/07/2020

Cushman & Wakefield has appointed industry veteran and former Brookfield Global Integrated Services (BGIS) APAC Managing Director, Jon McCormick, as its Head of Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) in Australia and New Zealand.

Commencing 6 July 2020, Jon will lead Cushman & Wakefield’s IFM, trade services and PPP (public private partnerships) businesses across Australia & New Zealand comprising a team of approximately 1,400. Jon will report to Jun Sochi, Asia Pacific Head of IFM & Asset Services.

Jon joins Cushman & Wakefield from BGIS where he spent 21 years in a range of senior leadership positions. This included leading Multiplex Asset Management before it was acquired by Brookfield to form Brookfield Multiplex Services and managing the joint venture with Johnson Controls Global Workplace Solutions in February 2013.

The appointment coincides with the multi-year renewal of Bupa’s facility management contract.

Jun Sochi, Head of IFM and Asset Services, Asia Pacific, Cushman & Wakefield, said: “To secure an executive of Jon’s calibre is a reflection of Cushman & Wakefield’s strong brand presence in the market. Jon has had a strong reputation of success in property services and facilities management. His leadership significantly strengthens our offering to clients as their requirements and the market changes in the post-COVID-19
environment.”

Jon McCormick, Head of IFM, Cushman & Wakefield, said: “Cushman & Wakefield is a global leader in the IFM space, and I was attracted to businesses’ progressive approach to client services and culture that aligns with my vision for the future of facilities management in Australia and New Zealand.”

According to Cushman & Wakefield, Jon’s appointment comes at a transformational time for its IFM business and the industry globally. The recent COVID-19 situation has rapidly accelerated demand from institutional landlords and occupiers for facilities that are sustainable, safe, and enhance health and wellness.

Recently, Cushman & Wakefield announced a landmark partnership with The Well Living Lab, the Mayo Clinic and Delos in the United States to understand how the design and operation of workplaces can prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. The initiative will be complementary to Cushman & Wakefield’s innovation in creating work environments that adhere to its 6-Feet Office principles. This encompasses a flexible design that uses visual and physical cues to maintain social distancing while ensuring a safe and productive workspace.

“As a result of COVID-19 we find ourselves at a pivot point, not just for facilities management but across the broader work and built environment. As Landlords and occupiers across the Asia-Pacific re-open buildings and people return to their offices, people need to have confidence that they are safe in these spaces.”

“COVID-19 has rapidly accelerated occupiers’ focus on wellness in the workplace and buildings that provide healthy environments that enhance wellness and productivity. These factors and the adoption of technology are factors that will drive transformation of the facility management industry.,” Jun concluded.
