Warsaw: A City That Never Settles

Is Warsaw an inclusive city? Cushman & Wakefield’s Barometer of Inclusive Cities categorised Warsaw into Rapid Risers, i.e. cities that previously were less active on equitable economic and social development but are now rapidly advancing social inclusion initiatives.

Warsaw’s inclusivity successes include high educational achievement and attainment translating into a large talent pool. The Polish capital also performed strongly on access to public transportation that eliminates barriers and allows everyone to use the same modes of transport. Each Warsaw metro station is easily accessible with lifts, appropriate signage and width of platforms and corridors. The metro system is expected to be expanded to include three new lines, thereby improving its accessibility for a wider range of Warsaw users.

Areas for improvement include air quality. Air pollution has a negative impact on environmental inclusivity and human health. The City is, however, stepping up activity in this area, with the introduction of Poland’s first Clean Transportation Zone in the City Centre on 1 July 2024 and an Air Protection Programme.
