GiFi is a company of French origin and is a leader in the retail distribution of low-cost home products, with more than 800 stores distributed throughout the world and more than 6500 employees. Founded in 1981 and being a pioneer in the smart discount segment, it opened its first store in Portugal at the beginning of this year, in Matosinhos. Consolidating its expansion process, it now opens its second store with approximately 1,200 sq.m in Aveiro Center.
Pepco, on the other hand, is a company of Polish origin, with more than 20 years of continuous growth, currently operating in 19 European countries, with more than 3500 stores. Customers will be able to find Pepco's classic offering, both for home and clothing for the whole family, including around 500 product categories, with an average of around 12,000 different products in an individual store, regularly updated with 80 new collections in each season. Pepco debuted in Portugal in May this year with an ambitious expansion plan, having already surpassed the milestone of 10 stores opened in the Portuguese market. Currently, the brand already has more than one million square meters of retail space across Europe and employs more than 28,000 people in the countries where it operates.
Located in the industrial area of Aveiro, Aveiro Center has 40 stores, including 10 restaurant spaces, featuring important Portuguese and international brands. GiFi and Pepco will now join other tenants such as Continente, Worten, Media Markt, Sport Zone, Mo, Burger King, Tiffosi, among others.
According to João Esteves, Partner, Head of Retail Agency in Portugal, “These two openings prove the “appetite” that exists among several international retailers to expand or consolidate their presence in out-of-town formats in Portugal. This year is especially remarkable, as we have seen the entry of at least five major international brands in our country, and all of them give priority to formats outside the city, which allows them not only to occupy larger areas, but also to expand more quickly. We are very happy to be an integral part of this new trend.”
