Cushman & Wakefield Represents Immanuel Christian School in its Expansion in Alexandria, Virginia

1/31/2019

School will Expand from K-8th to Offer High School, full K-12 Education

Immanuel Christian School ExpansionWASHINGTON, DC, January 31, 2019 – Cushman & Wakefield announced today that the firm has represented Immanuel Christian School in its 27,000-square-foot lease of the office 34,000 -square-foot building at 5252 Cherokee Ave. in Alexandria, Virginia. Immanuel Christian School will convert the building into a state of the art high school and has an option to acquire the property.

Cushman & Wakefield Director Jon Mahaffey represented Immanuel Christian School, while James Legat, Principal of Summit Commercial Real Estate, represented owner Nazir Baghat. Cushman & Wakefield Vice President Jon Greenberg will lead project management for the school’s conversion, while Lauren Ford, Associate Principal of Cooper Carry, will lead the architectural team.

Immanuel Christian School will begin conversion of the office property Q1 2019 and open in fall 2019. The move enables the school to expand its current, K-8th grade offerings to provide a full, K-12th grade education. Immanuel Christian will offer 9th and 10th grades in fall 2019 and add a grade in successive years.

“Immanuel Christian School’s ultimate goal is to acquire the building as its long-term home,” said Mahaffey. “This is a great example of a trend we’re seeing across suburban DC’s office market – older office buildings being converted to alternative uses, in this case a school. It’s a perfect adaptive reuse that’s both sustainable and benefits the surrounding community.”
