South Hackensack, NJ – Household-name nonprofit Goodwill® Industries of Greater NY and Northern NJ, Inc. (Goodwill NYNJ) has signed a 125,500-square-foot, full-building lease commitment in South Hackensack, announced Cushman & Wakefield. The commercial real estate services firm represented Goodwill NYNJ in its site search and negotiation for Forsgate Industrial Partners’ 400 Huyler Street.
The newly constructed, single-story warehouse property sits on six acres and will house a large Goodwill Outlet store, accommodating the organization’s ecommerce warehouse growth, according to Cushman & Wakefield’s top producing U.S. industrial broker, Charles Fern. Fern headed the assignment with Thomas D. Tucci, Jason Barton, Stephen Shoemaker, Thomas E. Tucci and Elizabeth Rouse.
“This highly respected nonprofit, which has been serving our regional community for more than 100 years, needed a special building – one close to New York, offering highway visibility and providing a mix of warehouse and office space with the ability to accommodate an outlet store,” Fern explained. “400 Huyler Street checked every box for Goodwill NYNJ, including 40-foot clear ceilings and 12,000 square feet of mezzanine offices – as well as an established, responsive landlord.”
The Goodwill Outlet in South Hackensack will sell goods by the pound. As the organization’s main Northern New Jersey operations facility, it also will operate Goodwill’s ecommerce division and sort goods for recycling. Donations of “previously loved” items will be accepted at this location.
A 501(c)(3) non-profit human services organization, Goodwill NYNJ operates 34 retail stores and 46 programs throughout the New York City metropolitan region, powered by donations of clothing and household items. Goodwill NYNJ translates those donations into employment services for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Nearly 1 million individual donations received by Goodwill NYNJ in 2018 funded coaching, placement and retention services for 30,000 people. As a result of this work with the community, Goodwill NYNJ helped 2,351 people, including 843 individuals with disabilities, get work outside its stores at hospitals, tech firms and public agencies.
