Cushman & Wakefield Health Challenge: A Project that Combines the Welfare of its Employees with the Wellness of the Planet

Paola Mangia • 16/07/2021

Through an application, each challenge participant could measure their level of sporting activity: either walking, running or simple meditation.

  • Thanks to this initiative, 138 trees have been planted in Madagascar, for the restoration of mangroves in the tropical forest
  • In two months, Cushman & Wakefield employees have maintained an average of over 7,000 steps and 102 minutes of sport per day.

The first edition of the “Cushman & Wakefield Health Challenge 2021” was successfully concluded. The initiative was launched in Italy, following the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, on April 28th. After the long isolation imposed by the pandemic, the Project aimed at multiple objectives: promoting a healthy and conscious lifestyle, encouraging a return to sports and outdoor activities; encouraging team building through healthy competition and fun challenges; contributing to the protection of the environment and forest heritage.

Through an application called "Healthy Virtuoso", each participant could not only measure and keep track of the physical activities daily carried out - from steps taken on the way to the office, to training sessions and meditation - but also engage in long-distance challenges with colleagues, and even make an assessment test of their eating habits. Even if there were prizes for the best “athlete”, what motivated the participation most was the desire to test and improve each one’s performance. Overall, people traveled for 32,700 km, equal to 52 million of steps and 3 million of calories consumed: an average of about 7,000 steps and 102 minutes of sport per day per person.

It’s not just that: with this Challenge, Cushman & Wakefield joined the reforestation campaign "Eden", committed since 2005 in reforestation projects around the world. As a result, 138 new trees - , one for each competing employee, - will be planted in Madagascar, one of the most compromised habitats, where more than 90% of the original forests have been destroyed, or are at risk, and where coastal regions - without the natural protection of dense mangroves - have become vulnerable to extreme weather events.

Thanks to many people who have chosen to join this initiative, in 2021 “Healthy Virtuoso” has committed to planting over 4,000 trees in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world, in order to support the ecosystem and local populations seriously affected by the effects of deforestation” (Healthy Virtuoso Team).
