Workspace for Today’s Workforce: Increasing Productivity

The main reasons employees give for going to the office are collaboration and connection; however, individual employee needs differ depending on their roles. One employee’s workday may be comprised of focus work and virtual meetings, while another might spend their time presenting to clients. To be successful, the office must accommodate these different work modes. An inspiring work environment comprises:

  • A variety of open and enclosed work settings for different tasks and differing group and individual needs.
  • Thoughtful zoning of space from active to quiet.
  • Strategically placed in-between spaces.

These environments facilitate cross-collaboration and colleague interaction while enhancing employee focused work. This creates a more inclusive environment that enables connection and group cohesion while acknowledging the individual.

Some of the most significant drivers of productivity are connecting with colleagues, maintaining energy, having time to focus, and minimizing distractions. While the office can provide an ideal environment for these criteria, it’s crucial that employee morale and engagement are enhanced in the process, or the benefits of office attendance could be lost. Employee engagement is critical to productivity, so including employee input on what they find beneficial is critical. Creating workspaces that enhance productivity drivers will not only improve productivity but also allow employees to feel engaged.
