The EMpower Ethnic Minority Role Model Lists showcase individuals who are breaking down barriers at work and working hard to smash the ceiling for ethnic minorities in multiple sectors and industries across the UK, Ireland, Europe, the United States and Canada.

The EMpower 100 Ethnic Minority Future Leaders list celebrates inspirational people of colour who are not senior in their organisations but are making a significant contribution to ethnic minority people at work.

"Our EMpower Future Leaders List showcases the amazing ethnic minority talent working at all levels of business,” said Suki Sandhu, founder and CEO of diversity and inclusion membership organisation INvolve, which compiled the list. “These inspirational individuals are encouraging those inside and outside of their organisations to stand up and work together to increase opportunities for people of colour.”

George Roberts, Head of UK & Ireland at Cushman & Wakefield, said: “The importance of equal rights for all is firmly, and rightly, in the spotlight across the world and Cushman & Wakefield is committed to building a truly diverse and inclusive culture where everyone can be their full selves. We are proud to support Sadaqat both as an Apprentice and as a diversity advocate and we are delighted that he has been recognised for his significant contribution to promoting diversity.”

Sadaqat Hussain, Apprentice Surveyor at Cushman & Wakefield, said: “I am thrilled to feature in the EMpower 100 Ethnic Minority Future Leaders list and amongst other fantastic individuals, including clients, who are changing our workplaces for the better. I am passionate about the merits of learning and growing from others and I am pleased that my employer, managers and peers support me in bringing about positive change.”

All the individuals listed were nominated by peers and employees. Nominations were then reviewed by EMpower’s judging panel, which included head of Yahoo Finance UK Lianna Brinded. The panel scored nominees on the influence of their role, their impact on ethnic minority inclusion inside and outside the workplace, and their business achievements.

In 2019, Hussain was awarded Employee of the Year in Cushman & Wakefield’s UK & Ireland business as well as being a Finalist at the National Asian Apprenticeship Awards. As Cultural Events lead at Cushman & Wakefield’s diversity and inclusion programme, Inspire, Hussain leads a team to drive awareness of different cultures by hosting a variety of events including Diwali, Ramadan, Easter and Chinese New Year. These events are a space to educate and inform people on the background of many of their colleagues and is supported with a range of internal communications about their significance. He is also the chair of the Birmingham branch of the CREation Property Network, which was set up to improve diversity and inclusion in the real estate industry. He has also organized property workshops for local colleges in Birmingham, aimed at BAME students to receive an insight and promote the opportunities available in the industry.

The EMpower lists are compiled by INvolve and is supported by Yahoo Finance UK. INvolve is a global network and consultancy that champions diversity and inclusion in business. Through the delivery of events, programs, thought leadership and advisory solutions, INvolve helps firms drive cultural change and create inclusive workplaces where any individual can succeed.
