Virtual Fitness Charity Challenge 2021

06/09/2021
Celebrating the international sports events that took place this summer in Tokyo and honoring the Mental Health Awareness Week in the U.K. in early May, colleagues from DTZ Investors (in Japan under the name of Cushman & Wakefield Asset Management) and the rest of Cushman & Wakefield’s teams from Japan, UK and France, created an initiative to raise money for local charities focusing on mental health, while promoting healthy lifestyle and wellbeing among the firm’s employees.

The “Virtual Fitness Charity Challenge” was to complete the distance of 10,054 km between May 10th – June 30th, recreating the London-Paris-Tokyo route . The individual distance, either by cycling, running, walking or swimming, was measured by each participant.

A team of 44 from three countries completed a total of 735 activities and logged 567 hours over 59 days. The longest distance achieved by a single person from Tokyo team totaled 320 km.

Participants also donated approx. ¥1,500 (£10), or the cost of the fare spent while travelling work-home route.

Thanks to the efforts of each team, DTZ Investors was able to raise funds for Young Minds External Link, a charity organization that supports young people across the U.K. with their mental health, as well as Autisme France External Link, a charity supporting people with Autism across France.

“I participated in this charity challenge with the purpose of raising awareness on mental and physical health, but I also got to experience the beauty of my colleagues' countries through the photographs posted each week. The event also gave me the opportunity to take the time to walk around the streets of Tokyo, allowing me to convey the charm of the city I live in through my photographs.” said Arisa Aoki, Cushman & Wakefield’s Accountant, Japan.

Cushman & Wakefield recognizes the ways our people showed up to donate, volunteer and reach out to those who needed it most during this extremely challenging time. Most of our firm’s charitable giving occurs in the local markets and is paid by Cushman & Wakefield’s for-profit entities. Each of our three regions - Americas, EMEA and APAC - operates independent charitable initiatives, leading their own regional programs.

The Tokyo team, among other initiatives, participated in Run For the Cure walk & run charity event to support eradication of breast cancer in Japan.
