This warehouse, whose investment will involve at least 50 million euros, will be the largest that DIA has in Spain and will serve stores in the Community of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León, which represents around 500 stores.
This project, with a duration of at least 15 years, is carried out thanks to the collaboration of Aquila Capital, owner of the land and responsible for the construction of the ship under the specifications of DIA; real estate services specialist Cushman & Wakefield, key in advising on the operation; Tewis Smart, a company specialized in the installation of refrigerators and, of course, the Illescas City Council.
The logistics block, the DIA warehouse, is part of the "Illescas Green Logistics Park" facilities, a project promoted by Aquila Capital in the second phase of Plataforma Central Iberum , the first eco-industrial park in Spain. The ship will be built under environmentally responsible standards, with solar panels, so it will be self-sufficient in consumption.
“This project has been a great challenge for everyone for several reasons. We had to find a surface of significant dimensions, in addition it had to have a suitable location, which was in a strategic area to serve the stores efficiently and, most importantly, find partners aligned with our vision for the future and share a common project. Our partners both urban as financial and equipment have joined DIA at a crucial moment in the transformation of the company in order to give a boost to this process of change, "said the director of Real Estate DIA Spain, Lucia Maricalva .
This is one more step in the DIA transformation process. To achieve the objectives set in phase 2, it is essential to have a solid logistics network adapted to the current and future needs of the company and capable of supplying stores in order to respond in a timely manner to customer demands.
The company's warehouses in Arroyomolinos, Mejorada del Campo, Madrid province and Azuqueca de Henares in Guadalajara, will move their production to Illescas. In this way, it is planned that the workers of these three warehouses will join the workforce of the platform, which will be made up of about 500 workers at the time it is launched. DIA's warehouse in Getafe, Madrid, will continue its operations.
The works will begin throughout this summer and the new warehouse is scheduled to be operational during the first half of 2022.
